SOAR Utilities

Make your own SOARing scenery and more!

Using the utilities below, you can easily create thermals for any of your favorite
scenery areas. Each of the programs below has its own advantages . I personally

find all of them indispensible when designing courses and races . Be sure to send
any thermal scenery you create, so that all may enjoy SOARing in a new place .

FS9

CSS Launcher for FS9

Norby, the FFVVV, & Sebastian have made an English version of the CCS Launcher

Cross Country Soaring 2004
ver. 4.0

"Dynamically and randomly creates thermals (w/o using BGL scenery) throughout a flight anywhere on Earth. The thermals lean automatically with the wind, vary in strength and size, smoothly "expire", and smoothly taper off in strength at their tops. They are surrounded by sink, and the thermal vertical velocity profile is a smooth, sinusoidal one, making thermal entry and exit more realistic than the abrupt jolts caused in BGL thermals. The program allows you to customize thermal strength, size, and height." by Eric Carden   NOTE: Eric, if you do not want us to host this, please contact Don or Karen and we will remove it. Because Eric's site is now closed there is no formal support.  For help ask members on the SOAR forum FS9 section.

This is the template to use with Spoon Installer (Jan 2002) or Spoon Installer (Dec 2003)) to create SOAR self-installing files. this template already has all files selected that are critical to the SOAR file system, including documentation. This leaves you to simply select the files you want to include, hit "create install" and you're done ! By Chris Gordan.  More recent versions of Spoon Installer --

FS2002 Flight Recorder and Flight Viewer
(beta)

Max Roodveldt's beta release of the new SOARRec.dll will allow users of FS2002 to record and view their flights as we have in the past...but there's more :> The new version of the Flight Viewer allows selectable speed polars to be used with the new L-NAV unit . The new gauge is also included (it's an update to the gauge installed in the ASW20v5) and can be installed in other planes as well . The final release of this package will include the ability to record and save speed polars for any aircraft desired.   Manual for Flightviewer
Thermiek
for
FS2002

Max Roodveldt does it again with this FS2002 thermal generating program. This is without a doubt the easiest and most powerful thermal generator to date. Read about the many features in the SOAR Library, and stay tuned for "how-to's". For FS2002 . English manual included... Here's the Thermiek Manual in German.

Thermals2.exe
(FS2000)

SCASM 2.39
(required for either version)

By Ed Dumas. Thermals.exe and Thermals2.exe are perfect for exact placement of either cloud or invisible ground thermals. They are relatively simple to learn and use effectively . Although the .bgls (scenery files) it creates cover a relatively small area (limited to the visible range in FS), .bgl's can easily be linked together and optimised using SCLINK, included in the SCASM package . Be sure to read all documentation.

Soar Track v1.0

by Christian Fumey

Soar Track Update (v1.1)

This easy to use application will create a scenery file that shows the exact path of a recorded flight . Once you have recorded a flight log , use Max Roodveldt's Flight Viewer to save the flight as an IGC file. Soar Track will take this file and generate scenery files with a "thread" in the sky that shows the exact flight path. Install the scenery to FS2000 , and see your recorded flight in 3D !
